• How to Care for Fresh Cut Flowers

If you receive fresh cut flowers in a vase or arrangement from a florist:

Be sure the flowers do not run out of preservative solution in their vase. Check the water on a daily basis to keep the vase full. If the arrangement is in florists foam this must be kept submerged in water.

If you receive fresh flowers in a box or wrapped, out of water:

Prepare a clean vase with a flower preservative (if it is not included with the flowers you can purchase it at a florist) and tap water.

Remove any foliage that may be submerged when you place the flowers in the vase.

Trim about 1cm of the end of each stem and place them in the vase (this will eliminate the dried ends of the stem and allow the flowers to drink water).

When you have finished your arrangement, place it in a cool area of your room for display. Avoid drafts and heat sources, including direct sunlight.

As always keep an eye on the water level of the vase, as your flowers will drink.

To revive a rose that has wilted prematurely:

If your rose wilts or shows signs of wilting within a day or two, cut the stem and lay the whole flower in a bath or tub of water for 12-24 hours, then place them back in the arrangement once they have revived.

Always you use a clean vase, as bacteria in the vase and/or the water will make a rose droop.
